    Pride and Joy

The contrast is shocking: the elation of Saturday afternoon’s festivities in Dupont Circle and the anguish of the news from Orlando on Sunday morning. And yet, that should not take away from the overwhelming joy of the Pride Parade. Always a happy occasion, revelers had one more thing to celebrate this year. This was the first Pride Parade that took place after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in June of 2015. Here, DC Focused photographers tried to capture some of that sense of happiness. Snowbirds Invade

Yesterday, around 12:25 p.m., the Snowbirds put on a short demonstration over the District.  The Snowbirds are Canada’s equivalent of the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds; they’re a flight demonstration team that brings “thrilling performances to the North American public.”  A number of DC Focused photographers managed to take some fantastic shots of the Snowbirds’ two passes over the city.  Here are some of the best that were added to the DC Focused Flickr pool.

Scenes from last night’s crazy storm

Wednesday’s violent storm ripped through the DMV right around rush hour, making it an ugly commute for a lot of folks. Of course, it also offered photographers a chance to capture some gripping images. Featured image, commute by Kevin Wolf is part of the DC Focused flickr pool. More images from the pool below. Weekend Focus: the city at night, jumbo crabs and placid waters

Holiday festival season continues to rev up this weekend with the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade kicking off at 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Silver Spring. If you’re up for a drive, head over to Gettysburg, instead, for the Remembrance Day Parade at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the graveside illumination ceremony that evening. You can also check out the Catharsis on the Mall:  A Vigil for Healing the Drug Wars, which kicks off Friday night on the northwest side of the Washington Monument and continues until Sunday morning with testimonials, music, dancing and the burning of a wooden temple at 11 p.m. on Saturday night. Weekend Focus: Our-creepy-mostly-monochrome Halloween edition

It’s funny how your frame of mind can influence how you see an image. Take today’s feature image, for example: A wonderful photo with great contrast, leading lines and light. However, when we put it into a Halloween context, it can be kind of creepy, right? The same might be said for a lot of today’s images if you approach them with that mood in mind. Leave us a message down below with what you see in some of these images. Meanwhile, this should be an epic weekend for photography with Halloween on Saturday and Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, on Sunday. The DC Focused Meetup group…

Weekend Focus: Bugs, big boats and beautiful sunsets

We hope you’ve rested up because it’s the weekend, and not just any weekend, but Capital Pride weekend. But before you do anything else, be sure to check out Victoria’s tips on shooting Saturday’s Pride Parade in DuPont Circle. You can see the schedule of events here. The question that is weighing heavily on our minds is whether there’s enough time this weekend to photograph the parade and festival and still make it up to Bawlmer for Hon Fest. Life is cruel. Also, if you were one of the lucky few who scored a ticket to the Prince concert at the Warner Theater on Sunday, take a picture for us, will…

Vintage WWII aircraft take a victory lap over DC

Just past high noon on Friday, a makeshift squadron of World War II-era fighters and bombers flew across the National Mall to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Allied victory in Europe. Weekend Focus: Kids with ‘tude, reflections and star gazing

We’re not sure we’re quite recovered from the enormity of last weekend. This might be a good weekend to just hang out in the backyard drinking mojitos with mom. Or you could grab your camera and join some DC Focused contributors for our photo challenge on Saturday afternoon.
