A week from today, seven of us from the DC Focused community will be on a charter flight to Havana, where we’ll spend the next week photographing dancers, boxers, baseball players, artists, farmers and everyday people. We’ll wander the back streets of Old Havana chasing quintessential street images and get up before sunrise to document the city of 2 million residents literally and figuratively waking to a new day.
Change is coming to Cuba. Slowly but surely and this will be our chance to document the country in transition.
This will be my third trip to Cuba but the first leading a group as part of my new business, Focused Photo Adventures. There’s a lot on the table for me, personally, but our group has decided to the up the ante by collaborating on a photo book to be made up of images taken on this trip. This morning, we launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the book, which will include 10 images from each of the photographers on the trip, thus our title for the book “Cuba: Seven in 10.”
Fo me, the beauty of this project will be that each of the photographers on this trip has a distinct style and way of interpreting the world. It will be interesting to see what kind of shared vision will emerge in our 70-image collaboration. The images on this page are from my most recent trip to Cuba in March.
