#DCFocused Pic 5: Beautiful fall photos from our Instagram feed

Are you a fall person or a spring person? Obviously, you can be both but if you had to choose one or the other, which would it be? Spring is beautiful, rejuvenating and literally a breath of fresh air after winter.

But for me, the golden light and warm tones of fall make it the very best season to be a photographer. And if it pleases the ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I’d like to submit the following five images as exhibits A through E.

To be sure we see your photos, tag them #DCFocused. Today’s images come from @justabartender, @ohhellorachel@ellievanhoutte, @photoartbyjjy and @paddyleahy.

Brenton, our favorite bartender, shows us you don’t have to ride two hours to the Shenandoah Valley to get a landscape photo that you can hang over the mantle. The color, composition and timing of this image are terrific.

2. @ohhellorachel

Orange against a blue sky always looks good. And I’m not saying that just because it’s my school colors (Go Gators). But there’s something else here that really catches my eye. Instead of using a very shallow depth of field, which would have been most people’s first instinct, Rachel goes in the other direction. So, instead of throwing the background out of focus, the leaves and branches create a very interesting background pattern.

Today is the day, America! Voting is a right and your vote matters. What President Abraham Lincoln once said when addressing soldiers of the One Hundred Sixty-Fourth Ohio Regime in 1864, resonates today: “In this great struggle, this form of Government and every form of human right is endangered if our enemies succeed. There is more involved in this contest than is realized by every one. There is involved in this struggle the question whether your children and my children will enjoy the privileges we have enjoyed…This struggle is too large for you to be diverted from it by any small matter.” —————— #Vote #democracy #lincoln #lincolnmemorial #washington #washingtondaily #exposeddc #mydccool #ilovedc #igdc #acreativedc #dcfocused #dctography #seemycity #ig_northamerica #instagramdc #igersofdc #dcitystyle #justgoshoot #igersdc #instadc #bythings #exploredc #theamericancollective

Do like Ellie. Shoot late in the day and put those long shadows to use.

If you’ve tried your hand at panning. Then you know how hard it is to do this. Amazing sharpness on a falling leaf.

5. @paddyleahy

Amongst all the craziness going on, make time to enjoy the simple things…

And finally, at the end of week that has left a lot of people physically and emotionally drained, it’s nice to take Patrick’s message to heart.
